This week’s guest Real Ales:

Pigs do Fly Real Ale at the Kings Head HoltWolf Brewery – Coyote: 4.3% abv. A full-bodied premium straw coloured ale. Complex but well balanced mix of hops and malt leads onto a crisp well hopped finale.
Potbelly Brewery – Pigs Do Fly: 4.4% abv. A Light and Golden Ale, it is a single hopped brew using Styrian Goldings, marking our 1st anniversary and as a special for Leicester Beer Festival!

Other news…

New seating being put in over the next weeks…and our smoking shelter is almost complete outside in the beer garden, with lights and heaters-hurrah!

Guest Real Ales

Greene King London GloryGreene King London Glory, Amber: 4% – Celebratory ale created by the master brewers of Greene King for the nation’s capital city. Centuries of expertise and craftsmanship have come together to produce this rich and fruity brew that combines crystal malt with Challenger and Golding hops.

Greene King Old Speckled Hen, Amber:4.7% – Has a full, smooth flavour and is very easy to drink. Its rich amber colour and superb fruity aromas are complemented by a delicious blend of malty tastes.

Belhaven St. Andrews Ale, Abv: 4.6% - This golf-inspired refreshing classic ale is available in cask as well as bottle.

Karaoke microphoneIf you fancy belting out karaoke classics, Sweet Caroline, Total Eclipse of the Heart or Killing Me Softly, then your luck is in because on the 30th of July, our famous pub karaoke is back! Entrance is free so just turn up and sing away to your heart’s content!

Our other big event starting this month is annual beer festival starting on Thursday 28th July, 2011. We’ll have over 15 beers showcasing the best of Yorkshire breweries, as well as all our regular beers.

Here’s the full line up for the Beer Festival:

York Guzzler 3.6% at the Kings Head Beer FestivalFrom the York Brewery:

  • York Terrier 4.2% - a premium bitter with rich, creamy malt and full hop palate finish.
  • York Centurion Ghost 5.4% - warming, dark bitter ale, with a roasted malt taste. Very easy to drink for its strength.
  • York Guzzler 3.6% – a well balanced, light beer with Pale Malt character. Crisp and refreshing.
  • York Longdaze 4.3% - a golden ale with a fruity & hoppy flavour, blackcurrant aroma and dry finish.

Ilkley Black 3.7% at the Kings Head Beer FestivalFrom the Ilkley Brewery:

  • Illkley Mary Jane 3.5% – a crisp and pale with a refreshing citrus.
  • Ilkley Lotus 5.6% – a gold coloured genuine India Pale Ale with hoppy, lemon and citrus aromas. This ale is complex, but well balanced and full of flavour.
  • Ilkley Black 3.7% – a dark and velvety mild made with chocolate and roasted malts to give a rich and satisfying flavour.
  • Ilkley Best 4% - a hoppy and spicy Yorkshire bitter.

Saltaire South Island 3.5% at the Kings Head Beer FestivalFrom the Saltaire Brewery:

  • Saltaire South Island Pale 3.5% – clean, pale beer, with cool crisp fruitiness from New Zealand hops, grown at Tasman Bay.
  • Saltaire Raspberry Blonde 4% – a refreshing blonde ale delicately infused with raspberry flavours.
  • Saltaire Blonde 4% - straw coloured light ale with soft malt flavours, delicately hopped with Czech and German hop varieties.
  • Saltaire Elderflower Blonde 4% - refreshing blonde ale infused with the delicate flavour of elderflower.
  • Saltaire Cascadian Pale Ale 4.8% – an American style pale ale with floral aromas and strong bitterness of cascade and centennial hops.

Roosters Stars N Stripes % at the Kings Head Beer FestivalFrom Roosters Brewery:

  • Roosters Hot Shot 3.9% – a moderately bittered floral and hoppy beer, brewed with a classic mix of Amarillo and cascade hops.
  • Roosters Stars N Stripes 4.3% – brewed with American hops for a big bold beer made with golden promise and crystal hops.
  • Roosters YPA 4.3% - pale golden colour. Raspberry aroma. Long aromatic finish. Medium bitterness. Golden Promise malt, soft Yorkshire water and Styrian Golding hops.
  • Roosters Citra 4.3% – a new interesting hop to come from the USA with passion fruit and tropical flavour.

Rudgate Nifleheim 4.4% at the Kings Head Beer FestivalFrom misc breweries:

  • Leeds Samba 3.7% – a hugely drinkable blonde beer. Using malts more usually associated with lager, this pale brew is delicate and fruity whilst retaining a clean finish.
  • Rudgate Nifleheim 4.4% - mid coloured bursting with hoppy flavours.

 

And if you can’t wait until then, here are the real ales on tap this week:

  • Humpty Dumpty Nord Atlantic at the Kings Head in HoltHumpty Dumpty Brewery: Nord Atlantic 3.7% -  a dark session bitter with a large crystal malt addition offset by a strong hopping with Target and Challenger hops.
  • Green King Brewery: Ale Fresco 4.3% - Smooth and easy drinking, this refreshing golden cask ale is brewed using centennial hops and has a subtle fruit aroma and fresh citrus taste.
  • We also have Norfolk Cider back on the list, a 7%…killer!

  • Golden Pale Ale, 5.0% from Elmtree Brewery: A pale ale in the traditional style that is initially malty and delicately bittered. The long dry biscuit finish is enhanced by the subtle citrus aromas.
  • Sundance, 4.1% from Greene King: This fine ale is brewed using pale malts and Fuggles hops to create a light, refreshing ale with floral and fruity aromas.

  • Duke’s Cambridge, 4.2% ABV from Greene King: golden ale, has been launched by the Bury St Edmunds-based pubs and brewing group to mark the royal couple becoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
  • Mary Jane, 3.5% ABV  from Ickley Brewery: Made with high quantities of Amarillo hops, this pale crisp beer has refreshing citrus aromas and flavours. Gold medal winner at the SIBA Northern region beer competition 2009/10 and bronze medal winner at the SIBA national competition.
  • CasKade, 4.2% ABV from Oldershaw Brewery: A pale golden beer, brewed with ‘Caskade’ hops and lightly bittered with a distinctive hoppy aroma.
  • Straw Dog, 4.5% ABV from Wolf Brewery: Pale and refreshing, this clear wheat beer is brewed in the German style. Soft German hops added to the brew give a wonderful aroma and slightly sweet taste to leave the imbiber wanting more!

Side Pocket real ale from Tring BreweryAs well as our classic real ales on tap this week (Adnams Bitter, Broadside and Woodforde’s Wherry), weekly guest ales available are:

  • Broadland Sunrise, 4.2% from Humpty Dumpty Brewery: red-orange in colour and is brewed with additions of crystal malt and rye, giving it a complex malty flavour and a refreshing dry finish.  The beer is hopped with a combination of English and North American hops, giving it a refined bitterness well balanced against the complexity of the malt bill. 
  • Side Pocket for a Toad, 3.6% from Tring Brewery: Unmistakable citrus notes from only the best Cascade hops balanced with a floral aroma and crisp dry finish make this straw coloured ale a fantastic session beer.
  • Oak, 3.8% abv from Grain Brewery: This well balanced session beer uses Maris Otter pale ale malt to give a light amber colour, and fermented slowly to give a dry, moreish finish. Three year award winner at CAMRA Norwich Beer Festival

A slick and top class performance delivered by a band which includes bass, drums, guitar and horn section and is fronted by both male and female vocalists – not to be missed!
